James Rushton

James P. Rushton, 86, of B’nai B’rith Apartments, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at the Mercy Special Care Hospital, Nanticoke. Born March 10, 1910 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Michael and Josephine Gill Rushton.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Wilkes-Barre, and attended various colleges through the American Red Cross. Before his retirement in 1972, he was a field director for the American Red Cross for 30 years.

He was a member of Holy Savior Church, Hillard Street, East End section of Wilkes-Barre, and the Knights of Columbus Council 302, Wilkes-Barre.

He and his wife, the former Amelia Luongo, would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in August. He was preceded in death by brothers, William, Leo, Harold and Dick Rushton; a sister, Doris Thompson.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Amelai “Polly” Barrett, Wilkes-Barre; a son, Michael J., Wilkes-Barre; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Michael B. and Gilbert Rushton, Wilkes-Barre; a sister, Ruth Bordash, Edwardsville; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the McLaughlin Funeral Service, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Saviour Church. Entombment will be St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
