Comments: This picture of Dad was probably taken somewhere in North Africa. In January, 1944 Dad was on a ship, the SS Edward Bates, that was part of a convoy of about 55 ships that had passed through Gibraltar into the Mediterranean Sea. On February 1st the SS Edward Bates was torpedoed and Dad and the rest of the crew were rescued by an English ship that took them to Algeria. At some point Dad left Algeria and went to Morocco.
