Mary Gill

Mary Patricia Joyce Gill, of North Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday at her home.

She was born March 4, 1919 in Pittston, a daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Hinchcliffe Joyce. A 1936 graduate of St. John’s High School, Pittston, she graduated from College Misericordia in 1940 and was a teacher in the Jenkins Township School District for a number of years. In 1942, she married Attorney Thomas F. Gill. Mrs. Gill was a member of the Catholic Community of North Wilkes-Barre and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Little Flower Manor.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Frances Germann; brothers, Ned, Joseph, and George Joyce.

Surviving are her children, Tom and Alice, at home; Mary, Old Bridge, N.J.; Anne, Forty Fort; Nora, Hudson; Liz, Kingston; Peter, Wilkes-Barre; John, Richmond, Va.; Nick, Nacogdoches, Texas; Michael, Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving are grandchildren, P.J., Baltimore, Md.; Drew, Weehawken, N.J.; Rachel, Austin, Texas; Harry and Martha, Richmond, Va.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call today from 5 to 8.
