Richard J. Gill, 91, of Allentown, died October 14, 2015 at Country Meadows, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Doris B. Gill with whom he shared 61 years of marriage prior to her death in January, 2013.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Delia Gill. He honorably served in the Army Air Force, during World War II as a Bombardier-Navigator. He graduated from Catholic University with a BA in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked 35 years as an engineer at General Electric in Allentown and 2 years with Black and Decker in Connecticut before retiring to the Lehigh Valley. He earned his Professional Engineer license and served as President of the Engineer's Club of the Lehigh Valley. He was an avid golfer and skier. He was a member of the Ptarmigan Ski Club and long time volunteer for the Special Olympics Ski team. He was a member of The Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Siena in Allentown.
Survivors: Daughters: Ann Marie Merritt of Florida and Deborah wife of Robert Handschue of Allentown, Son: Richard C. Gill and his wife Marcy of Maryland, Grandchildren: James R. Merritt of Florida, Mark P. Merritt of Washington, Heather G. Handschue of Allentown, Michelle R. Gill of New York and Leslie S. Gill of Maryland and Great-Grandsons: Logan J. Merritt and Liam C. Merritt both of Florida.
Services: A Memorial service will be private, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
