Edward Heffren (1920-2006)

Edward A. Heffren of Pittston passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 14.

He was born Dec. 17, 1920 in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Michael and Alice Hinchcliff Heffren. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School. Mr. Heffren served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1942 to 1946, training at Lowry Field, Denver, Colo. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

He was employed by the U.S. government for 42 years in Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Pittston.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Heffren was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude; brothers, Raymond, who died at the Battle of the Bulge on Jan. 7, 1945 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart; George and Joseph.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Mary Lucille Swift; son, Edward J.; daughter, Attorney Maureen; nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family from Ruane and Regan Funeral Home, 18 Kennedy St., Pittston. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at the convenience of the family.
