John Hinchcliff Dies In Taylor Hospital

John Hinchcliff of 201 ½ Main Street, Avoca, died last night at 5:30 at Taylor Hospital where he was a medical patient since October 3.

Born in Scranton, September 24, 1884, Mr. Hinchcliff was a son of the late Samuel and Margaret Singelman Hinchcliff. A resident of West Pittston more than 30 years, he moved to Avoca six years ago after his marriage to the former Mrs. Elsie Greatrix.

Mr. Hinchcliff was for many years a foreman at Number 9 Colliery of Pittston Coal Company, retiring in 1952. He was a member of First Congregational Church, west Pittston; St. John’s Lodge 233, F&AM, Pittston, and Avoca Council, Jr. OUAM.

He leaves his wife; sisters, Mrs. Thomas Reid, Frederick, MD; Mrs. Thelma Tradesco, Scranton, and Cora Hinchcliff, Washington, D.C.

Funeral will be from the funeral home, 211 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston; Monday at 2 with Rev. W. John Hill, West Pittston, and Rev. John Stephens, Avoca PM Church, officiating. Interment in West Pittston Cemetery. Friends may call tonight 7 to 10 and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 10. Officers of St. John’s Lodge will hold Masonic services tonight.
