Clyde Reid (1917-1997)

Clyde Reid

Clyde E. Reid of Fifth Street, West Pittston, died Thursday at his home. Born in Avoca, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lora Hinchcliff Reid.

He graduated from West Pittston High School and attended the Wharton School of Finance.

He was the former owner of the Pocono Mountain Fudge and Pancake House, Mountainhome, and the Pocono Fudge House Colony Village, Analomink, having been a candy maker for 35 years. He was also general manager of the John F. Davis candy Co., Scranton.

He served for three years with the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of the Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, West Pittston where he held a number of offices: The Keystone Consistory Valley of Scranton; St. John’s Lodge 233 F&M Masons; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2540, Stroudsburg.

Surviving are his wife, the former Kathryn Kohler; a son, Robert K. Reid, Erie; a grandson, Adam Kohler Reid; brothers, Clark Reid, Tampa, Fla.; Dr. Thomas Reid, Frederick, Md.

At the request of the deceased, his body is being sent to the Humanity Gift Registry. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, West Pittston, with Mrs. Jane Lang, interim pastor, and a relative, the Rev. William Davies, retired, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston.
