Patrick W. Gill

Patrick W. Gill, 76 years old, well-known resident for eleven years died Monday night at his home after an illness of about five weeks.

On the night of June 25, Mr. Gill was struck by an automobile driven by Robert Rawleigh of Swains. He suffered severe injuries and pnenmonia developed.

Mr. Gill was born in Ireland and resided in Belfast, N.Y. for a number of years. About ?? years ago he came to Hornell. He was caretaker of the Hornell Elks Club for some time. He was a devout member of St. Ann’s church and the Holy Name society. He had a legion of friends in the city and throughout Allegany county.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Chas. J. O’Brien of this city and Mrs. James Hack of Baltimore, and two sisters, Sister M. Fedelis and Mrs. D. A. McCarthy of Buffalo.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. Ann’s church. A solemn high mass was celebrated by the Rev. Charles Cauley of Erie, Pa. The Rev. Vincent McCarthy of Wilson was deacon and Rev. Bernard Gill was sub-deacon. They were assisted by Rev. Charles Crowley and Rev. Frank Coughlin of Erie, all relatives of the deceased. Rev. Robert Keleher and Rev. John Brill were also in the sanctuary.

The pallbearers, nephews of the deceased, were Wm. McCarthy, Lee McCarthy, Fredrick McCarthy, Franklyn McCarthy, Otto Redanz and Henry Crowley.

Burial was made in Belfast cemetery. Services at the grave were conducted by Rev. Vincent McCarthy and Rev. Charles Crowley.
