Jean Haley Gill (1916-2001)

Jean Mahon, 85, of Wilkes-Barre, died Monday morning at Mountain View Care Center, Scranton

She was born in Plains and was the daughter of the late William and Mary Gildea Haley. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains, and College Misericordia, Dallas, Class of 1936. She was a member of Misericordia Alumni, The National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Mrs. Mahon was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mahon, in 1986; brothers, Leo and Joseph Haley. Surviving are sons, Bart, Piscataway, N.J.; John; daughters, Margo McGonagle, Winnetka, Ill.; Mary Jean Grove, Gainsville, Fla.; Marcella Mahon, Rowlett, Texas; Barbara Beynon, Nicholson; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St. Plains.
