Jane Messitt Gilroy (1924-2005)

Jane Messitt Gilroy, 81, of Pittston entered into
eternal rest Saturday, surrounded by her lov

She was born in Pittston on March 28, 1924, beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Clarke Messitt.

A life resident of Pittston, Jane was a devout parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. She graduated from St. John's High School, Pittston, and Wyoming Seminary Business School.

After graduation, she worked as a private secretary on Wall Street. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an executive secretary at Walsh Brothers Plumbing and Heating.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her best friend and sister, Catherine Long; grandson, Richard McNichol.

Her favorite pastime was family gatherings.

She was a constant presence and support to her seven children, sons, Edward Gilroy Jr. and his wife, Joan, Southboro, Mass.; John Gilroy and his wife, Carolyn, Fairfield, Conn.; Brian Gilroy and his wife Eileen, Endwell, N.Y.; daughters, Mary Jane Hunsecker and her husband, Gary, Shippensburg; Susan McNichol, Boyton Beach, Fla.; Diane Williams and her husband, Joseph, Lake Ariel; Michele Healey, Pittston.

"Mom Jane" will be greatly missed by her 14 grandchildren, Tracey, Bridget, Sean, Meghan, Michael and Alison Gilroy, Jennifer, Lori and Shannon Hunsecker, Melissa McNichol, Kerry and Kyle Williams and Christine and Robyn Healey; one great-grandchild, Caitlin Jane.

Also surviving are a cousin, Miriam Clarke, California; niece and nephew, Cathy and Kevin Long.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 from Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Pittston. Friends may call Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
