James J. O’Neill

James J. O’Neill, 90, of 156 Austin Ave., Parsons, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at the hospice unit of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

He was born August 21, 1908 in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Michael and Isabel Turner O’Neill and was a graduate of Wilkes College.

A life resident of Parsons, Mr. O’Neill was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Third Army under General George Patton. He was employed as an accountant with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board; he was associated with Acme Tax Service.

He and his wife, the former Clare Christopher, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary June 24. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Joan Moyer, Parsons and Florida; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be Saturday at 11 from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, services will be conducted by Rev. William R. Culnane, Pastor, St. Dominic’s Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice unit of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1111 East End Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711.
