Priest Dies At Age of 37
Rev. James Flynn Served St. John's

Rev. James Flynn, 37, an assistant pastor at St. John's Church, N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday afternoon at General Hospital 20 minutes after being stricken at the rectory.

Dr. George Hudock, Luzerne County coroner, attributed death to a heart attack. Also investigating were Deputy Coroner Joseph M. Shaver and Harry Hyman.

Born in Scranton, he was a graduate of St. Paul's High School, Scranton, University of Scranton and Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure, N. Y. He was ordained in the priesthood June 16, 1962, by late Rev. Jerome D. Hannan at St. Peter's Cathedral, Scranton.

His assignments included the assistant directorship of Camp St. Andrew, Tunkhannock and the assistant pastor of St. Vincent's Church, Plymouth; St. Mary's Church, Wilkes-Barre; St. Ann's Church, Tobyhanna, and St. John's Church, Wilkes-Barre. He was catechist at Bishop Hoban High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. John Flynn of Provincial Tower; brothers, his twin, Rev. Paul Flynn, assistant pastor at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Dunmore; Lt. Col. John J. Flynn, Acton, Mass.

Viewing will be in St. John's rectory in Wilkes-Barre Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m. and will continue until transferal services to the church Thursday at 7:15 p.m. with a mass at 7:30. Msgr. Joseph A. Madden, V.F., will preside.

Funeral will be Friday morning with the pontifical concelebrated funeral Mass at 11. Most Rev. J. Carroll McCormick, D.D., will be principal celebrant. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

To Be Buried Today

Funeral rites for Rev. James P. Flynn, assistant pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, Wilkes-Barre will be held from St. John the Evangelist Church Friday at 11 a.m. Bishop J. Carroll McCormick, Bishop of Scranton, will be principal celebrant at a pontifical concelebrated Mass.

Other participants will be Rev. Paul Flynn, Rev. Andrew Maloney, Rev. Raymond Devinney, Rev. Joseph Kelly, concelebrants; Rev. Francis Beeda, assisting priest; Rev. William Kearney, cross bearer; Rev. Joseph Sitko, Rev. James Tracy, acolytes; Rev. Thomas J. O'Malley, thurifier; Re. Joseph Kakareka, miter bearer; Rev. Russell Motsay, book bearer; Msgr. James Timlin, Rev. Robert Shilala, masters of ceremonies; Rev. Arthur Kaschenbach, chanter; Rev. John Walsh, director of music; Msgr. Thomas Horan, sermon.
