R. C. Gilroy, Dentist, Dies
West Pittston Man Practiced 35 Years

Dr. Robert C. Gilroy, a practicing dentist in Pittston for 35 years, died Saturday morning at 5:30 at his home, 514 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston. He had been ill for the last three months.

Born and reared in Pittston, he was a son of the late Martin F. and Catherine Cummings Gilroy. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School, Pittston; attended Medico-Chi College at Philadelphia for one year and transferred to Temple University Dental College, graduating in 1918. He later took post-graduate work at Northwestern University Dental College.

Dr. Gilroy was also a registered pharmacist and was employed at Peck’s Drug Store, Pittston, for a time prior to entering college. He was a veteran of World War 1, serving with the Dental Corps as a first lieutenant at Camp Greenleaf, Ga.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, and its Holy Name Society; also of Luzerne County Dental Association, serving terms as president and treasurer; the State and American Dental Associations, and John B. Stark Post, American Legion, Pittston.

Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Fitzgerald, Worcester, Mass., and a son Robert C., Jr., at home; also a brother Frank A. Gilroy, Avoca.

The funeral will be held from the funeral home, 802 Susquehana Avenue, West Pittston, Tuesday at 9 with requiem mass at 9:30 in St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call today 2 to 5 and 7 to 10.
