Robert Gilroy (1935-2005)

Robert C. Gilroy, 70, of Vineland, N.J., died
Tuesday at SJ Regional Medical Center, Vineland,

He was born in Pittston and he had lived in Vineland, N.J. for the past 22 years.

Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 22½ years. He was on the military police force as a gunnery sergeant and was in Vietnam for a year.

He was wounded twice while serving in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart and many other awards. Bob also worked for the City of Vineland, N.J., as a code enforcement officer for 16 years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge; past vice president of the North Italy Club; past commandant of Semper Marine Detachment 205; and was involved with the March of Dimes drives and with Dottie Cullen at the Baker House.

Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, community service and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Vineland, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Catherine Gilroy; brother, Charles (Butch) Gilroy; sisters, Maryann Gilroy and Marita Gilligan.

Surviving are sons, Robert N. Gilroy, Richmond, Va.; John E. Gilroy and his wife, Laura, Vineland, N.J.; brother, Thomas Gilroy, Florida; sisters, Lois Gavrish, Connecticut; Ellen Albert, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Bonnie Gilroy, Texas; granddaughter, Megan Elaine Gilroy, Vineland, N.J.; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Norman Hickman, Sandy Webb, Elly Schurman and Kathy Manley.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 from DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 1019 E. Landis Ave., Vineland, N.J. Burial will follow in Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Bridgeton, N.J. Friends will be received Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 to time of service, at the funeral home.
